• Hey everyone! I hope you have all been well and are able to continue to get out and be active. I want to again thank everyone who has been continuing to share their activity log with me. Please continue to keep your activity log going for the rest of the school year as we continue remote learning.   • Course Description

    Physical Education is a 9 week course that is paired with a grade level Health class.  Eache PE/Health class runs for a semsester with each class accounting for 50% of the student's grade.  PE classes are movement based and meet everday.  Regular participation is expected.  The staff will utilize a variety of movement activities, lead-up games, fitness activities and sports to meet both district and state Physical Education Standards.

     

    Objectives, Standards & Goals

    The main objective of Physical Education is for students to participate in meaningful activities that promote physical fitness, social and emotional wellness, cooperative learning, skill development, and risks and preventitive measures associated with physical activity and sport.

    Curriculum Standards focus on Movement Competence and Understanding, Physical and Personal Wellness, Emotional and Social Wellness, and Prevention and Risk Management.

    Each student will be asked to set goals, work to achieve those goals, participate with their best effort and have fun within class expectations.

     

    Dress Requirements

    Appropriate dress is required in order for students to participate in Physical Education classes.  

    Requirements Include: clean court shoes, socks, T-shirts, gym shorts or sweat pants.  Sweat-shirts or jackets are permissible and encouraged for outside activity or during colder weather.

    Students are asked to wear a different set of clothing for PE than what they wear to class during the school day.  Students that do not dress appropriately (shoes, shirt, short/pants) or have a change of clothing are not allowed to participate and will recieve no daily participation points.  These students will instead be asked to complete an assignment related to the activity of the day.

     

    Expecations

    Students are expected to follow all classroom expectations outlined in the student handbook.

    Students are expected to participate and give their best effort.

    Students are expected to respect all equipment and follow all classroom rules set by the staff.

    Students are expected to bring a parent or doctor's not if unable to participate or participate with limitations.  A phone call or email is also acceptable.  Students not providing an excuse are given an unexcused non-participation for the day.

    Students are expected to adhere to the no gum, food or drink policy for PE classes.

    Students missing an excessive number of classes due to illness or injury may be asked to complete a sport/fitness packet at a time arranged by the instructor.

    Students are expected to report to their assign squad after changing and refrain from handling equipment unless asked to do so.

    Students with disabilities will be accommodated as needed or described in thier IEP.

     

    Grading

    Students earn a maximum of 10 points each day for PE as follows:

    2-pts.  Participation (on task and giving best effort)

    2-pts.  On tiime and prepared to listen and learn.

    2-pts.  Displays good sportsmanship, cooperation & responsibilitiy.

    2-pts.  Appropriate PE clothing and shoes (shoes laced correctly).

    2- pts.  Makes honest effort to attempt and practice expected skills.

     

    In addition to your daily grade, points are earned through participation in the FITNESS GRAM.  Points are awarded based on a grading rubric explained to the students.  The fitness test will count as 15% of the students overall grade.  All students are required to participate in the assessment.  Students may also take written tests pertaining to an activity or have specific sport skill assessed.  These assessments will count towards the total possible points for each grading period totaled with the daily points and fitness test.

     

    Final Grades are based on a percentage of the total possible points for each grading period.

    A = 90 - 100%

    B = 80 - 89%

    C = 70 - 79%

    D = 60 - 69%

    F = 59% or lower
