Light-fixture replacements kick off building upgrades

Initial steps in the school district's Resource Efficiency Initiative began this week with partner Schneider Electric replacing fluorescent lighting in EHS classrooms.

Crews from Schneider's lighting subcontractor, McBride Lighting & Electrical Services, will make their way through every school in the district, mostly after hours, to install LED lights which use much less power and are longer lasting and brighter.

By partnering with Schneider Electric and making the buildings more energy efficient, the district will be able to use the cost savings to fund deferred maintenance projects, extend the longevity of the buildings, upgrade environmental control systems in the buildings and, in the case of the two elementary schools, lay system-level groundwork that's necessary to prepare the buildings for air conditioning if the district is able to obtain funding for cooling through grants or taxpayer support in the future.
