Field of Flags & annual luncheon honor veterans at EMS

Sixty-two flags welcomed visitors to Elizabeth Middle School the week of Nov. 6 and each honored a veteran.

For Veterans Day, the EMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society conducted a fundraiser in September and October. For $10, participants could purchase a flag to represent a special veteran in their lives. Proceeds benefit Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and their free, life-changing services for our nation’s ill and injured heroes and their families. The flags were displayed through Nov. 11.

For more than 100 years, DAV has helped veterans of all generations live high-quality lives with respect and dignity. More than 1 million veterans each year receive benefit assistance, meaningful employment opportunities and free transportation to VA medical appointments.

NJHS also honored active and retired service members with their annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Thursday. Dozens of veterans, active-duty members and their families were treated to a huge spread of food and treats served up by NJHS members and their sponsors Megan Hartrich and Melanie Kaumeyer.
