Our Superintendent

  • Dan Snowberger was appointed superintendent of Elizabeth Schools in March 2023. With more than 37 years of experience in education, including 28 years of successful educational leadership improving systems to increase and sustain student achievement. He has served in public school and private-sector roles in California, Colorado and Florida. He and his wife, Olga, have five children. 

    Dan SnowbergerFrom 2012-2021, Snowberger was the superintendent of Durango School District 9-R. Under his leadership, the district was recognized by A+ Colorado in 2016, 2018 and 2020 for closing gaps in achievement and graduation rates. Since then, Snowberger has served as a zone superintendent in Colorado Springs District 49 and director of education operations for Education Reenvisioned BOCES in Monument. 

    Snowberger’s career experience is not only from Colorado  but from across the country. He began his career as a paraprofessional, elementary school teacher, assistant principal, and principal in Florida. After taking a position as vice president for development at The Learning Connection, Snowberger moved from Florida to Loveland, Colorado. Returning to a school-based career, Snowberger served as a principal in Douglas County School District and then moved into the position of regional director of instructional support services. From there, Snowberger became the chief academic officer for Cornerstone Academy, a charter school in Los Angeles, California. 

    His career trajectory started pointing toward becoming the lead executive for a school district in Harrison School District Two in Colorado Springs. First, he served as director of learning services, then executive director of schools before becoming assistant superintendent. From there, Snowberger moved to Durango to lead that school district as the Superintendent.

    Over the course of his career, Snowberger has had leadership roles in special education, English language learning, gifted and talented programs, instructional improvement, early childhood learning, district fiscal improvements, partnering with a wide range of public and private organizations and businesses to bring communities together to build the future for their students. He has also been appointed by governors and legislative leaders to serve on committees for educational leadership as well as standards and assessment.

    Snowberger holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, both from Nova Southeastern University. He earned his superintendent's license from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, and began work toward a doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University.
