Bus Conduct & Rules

  • Safety

Remember that our rules and regulations regarding bus behavior and student management are rooted in bus safety for all riders, drivers, and other motorists. The objective of bus behavior guidelines and student management is to ensure a safe bus ride by allowing the driver’s attention to be on operating the vehicle. For the school bus driver to operate the bus safely, it is essential that the student passengers behave in a controlled manner.

The following are safety rules, which, if broken, WILL result in immediate suspension and possible revocation of transportation privileges (including all field trips and sporting events):

    • Not following the driver's instructions.

    • Abusive or confrontational language directed at the driver, paraprofessional, or another student.

    • Aggressive physical contact with other students or staff.

    • Bullying, intimidating, and or threatening the driver, paraprofessional, or another student.

    • Using lighters, matches, torches, or anything with open fire.

    • Purposeful damage or destruction to the bus or other student’s personal property. (Parents will be held financially responsible for repairs or replacement)

    • Possession and use of alcohol, tobacco products, vapes, or drugs on the bus.

    • Possession or use of a firearm, knife, or other weapon on the bus.

    • Display of videos containing inappropriate content on a phone, tablet, or any other electronic device.

    • Tampering with the emergency exits.

    • Other behaviors are subject to suspension/expulsion under the district’s Code of Conduct.

The following are safety rules, which, if broken, COULD result in loss of transportation privileges (including all field trips and sporting events) (minimum of 3 days).

    • Students must remain seated while the bus is in motion. They must sit seat to seat, with their back against the back and their hands, feet, and legs in the seating area.

    • No standing, except for student(s) departing at the designated stop, only after the bus comes to a complete stop.

    • Students are expected to keep their seating area free of trash.

    • Students should not throw items around the bus or out of the windows (all sports balls must be in a backpack or bag).

    • All body parts and personal items must always remain in the bus, not out the windows.

    • Profane, foul, or offensive language or gestures should not be used on the bus or directed at other students or vehicles.

    • Eating and drinking are prohibited on the bus. (WATER IS OKAY)

    • No animals, insects, amphibians, birds, fish, or reptiles on the bus.

Parents must call the transportation office at 303.646.6790 by 2:45 pm or send a written note to permit their student to ride home with another student. This is allowed only if the bus has space available for your students. Drivers will not accept phone calls or text messages from parents.
