Safety
Let us remember all of our rules and regulations around bus behavior and student management are rooted in bus safety: safety for riders, safety for drivers and safety for other motorists. The objective of bus behavior guidelines and student management is to ensure a safe bus ride by allowing the driver’s attention to be on operating the vehicle. In order for the school bus driver to safely operate the bus, it is essential that the student passengers behave in a controlled manner.
The following are safety rules, which, if broken, WILL result in immediate suspension and possible revocation of transportation privileges (including all field trips and sporting events):
- Not following Driver's directions
- Abusive or confrontational language directed at driver, paraprofessional, or another student
- Aggressive physical contact with other students or staff
- Bullying, threatening, and/or intimidating other students or staff
- Use of lighters, matches, torches, or anything with an open flame
- Purposefule damage or destruction to the bus or other student's personal property (parents will also be held financially responsible)
- Possession or use of alcohol, tobacco products, vapes, or drugs on the bus
- Possession or use of a firearm, knife, or any other weapon on the bus
- Display of videos or pictures containing inappropriate content on a phone, tablet, or any other electronic device
- Tampering with emergency exits
- Other behaviors subject to suspension/expulsion under the district's Code of Conduct
The following are safety rules, which if broken, COULD result in loss of transportation privileges (including all field trips and sporting events)
- Students must remain seated while the bus is in motion, seat to seat, back against the back of the seat and hands, feet, and legs in the seating area
- Students are expected to keep their seating area free of trash, etc.
- Students shouls not throw items around the bus nor out the windows (all sports balls should be in a backpack or bag)
- All body parts and personal items are to remain in the bus at all times, not out the windows
- Profane, foul, offensive language or offensive gestures should not be used on the bus or directed at other students or other vehicles
- Eating and drinking is prohibited on the bus
- No animals, insects, amphibians, birds, fish, or reptiles on the bus
Parents must call the Transportation Office at 303-646-6790 by 3:00pm or send a written note to give their student permission to ride home with another student. This will be allowed only if the bus has space available for your student. Drivers will not accept phone calls or text messages from parents.
