Mrs. Lori Horton
I am excited and honored to welcome you to Hortonville. What is Hortonville? Hortonville is a place that I have created to make students feel safe to take educational risks and are valued... to quote Horton by Dr. Seuss, “A person is a person, no matter how small.” It is also a place where students will be challenged to engage and to immerse themselves in discovering and analyzing a wide variety of topics from literature to life skills. Finally, Hortonville is a place where you will learn in a fun, fair, firm, focused and consistent environment.
Who is the teacher that created Hortonville? Horton - that is who! This school year is a benchmark year for me in two ways: 25 years of teaching and 10 years with the ESD. I original hail from Indiana, and I earned my bachleor's degree in education at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. I have a wide range of teaching experiences from teaching middle schoolers to high school schoolers, from teaching in rural to urban communities, to teaching Language Arts, Alternative Education to Social Studies. I am currently teaching Language Arts within the realm of Alternative Education: Lit. Recovery, Cardinal Recovery, On the Go, and 9-12th Conceptual Language Arts. I have sponsored or co-sponsored so many different activities it would take 15 mintues to type them all out; however, I am currently not doing any extracurricular activities that are not related to the Alternative Education Department.
On a personal note, I have been successfully married for 37 years "to the same person," and I have an amazingly talented son who is 25 and currently teaching here at EHS as well. We live in Castle Rock not too far from Elizabeth. We built our home so I would be closer to this Elizabeth community. My hobbies include: reading, traveling, cycling, scrapbooking, and being wife, mom, and daughter. I love fashion and bling.
