Ms. Smolin
Hello I’m Ms. Smolin, I am a certified art teacher k through 12 and a 2016 graduate of Flagler College, I have taught many different subjects working as a substitute for Denver School of Science and Technology for 2017-2018 school year. This past school year I also had several roles, working for Denver Public Schools at Lincoln High School. I started working in the building as a math fellow, assisting math teachers and supporting student learning both in the classroom and in after school tutoring, my focus was building student relationships to foster student success. There were times that this required being an advocate for my students. I spent time working one-on-one with a student who was struggling to pass his classes, stepping up to fill a necessary role with a student I had developed a relationship with. I finished the last 2 months of the school as a long-term substitute in the ceramics and sculpture classroom.
I believe art is vital for adolescent development. Art can provide tools for dealing with the trials and tribulations of life. Through the lens of art we can build relationships and provide students a positive environment for them to express their feelings. I see art as a way to work through the difficulties they may face in a healthy and therapeutic manner, as well as nurturing future artists.
I am very excited to be teaching at Elizabeth High School this year. and look forward to getting to know all of my students and being a Cardinal!
