Mr. Keith Kirkland
Hey friend! I'm Keith Kirkland, and I'm honored to serve my second year as a Licensed School Counselor at Elizabeth High School in Colorado. I have a strong passion for guiding and supporting students on their educational journey and feel fortunate to make a positive impact on the lives of those I serve.
My journey towards counseling has been rich and diverse. Before entering the field of education, I served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. During my military service, I had the privilege of overseeing the education and training of more than 5,000 men and women. This experience shaped my understanding of leadership, mentorship, and the transformative power of education.
I'm currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling at Adams State University. Alongside my ongoing education, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Colorado State University Global Campus (2018), as well as Associates of Science degrees in Education Management and Aviation Maintenance Technology from the Community College of the Air Force (2013). I believe this diverse educational background provides me with a well-rounded perspective to address the unique needs of my students.
As a High School Counselor, I have the privilege of overseeing the progress and well-being of students with last names H-M, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with affective needs. My fluency in Spanish allows me to ensure that language is never a barrier in effective communication and support for my students. In addition to this linguistic proficiency, I'm known for seamlessly integrating technology into our counseling strategies, leveraging its power to provide students with enhanced resources and guidance.
My counseling philosophy is grounded in recognizing students as the capable young adults they are, offering them both flexibility and guidance to make informed decisions and help them through challenging times. I meet each student at their individual stage of development, empowering them to chase their aspirations and achieve their goals.
In my capacity as a counselor, I'm not just here for guidance; I'm an advocate for my students, a tech enthusiast, and try hard to be a beacon of positivity in their educational journey.
