COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The curriculum of AP Biology, while unique to each person who teaches it, is controlled by the AP College Board. They have a set of requirements and goals that we should complete prior to the AP test in May.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
This is a course that gives you the opportunity to receive credit for a college course that is taken in high school (after attaining a minimum score of 3 out of 5 on the AP exam). The curriculum is centered on four Big Ideas; all lessons will touch on at least one Big Idea as we cover it. The four Big Ideas are:
Big Idea One: The process of evolution drives the diversity and the unity of life.
Big Idea Two: Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis.
Big Idea Three: Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.
Big Idea Four: Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties. Homework Expectations: A minimum of 3 hours of homework is assigned each week, and additional 4-6 hours of study (reading) time each week will be needed to be successful at this course.
Summer Homework: YES, there will be 4-6 chapters covered on-line during the summer months that will be graded and included in the first semester grades.
