COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A science course designed to pique interest in a variety of scientific topics. The course mainly aims to study relevant advances in the scientific community that impact everyday life. The course will briefly discuss some of the earliest findings in science that are still used as current models such as the big bang theory, meteorology, astronomical evolution, DNA discovery, etc. Students will study the theories and objects that make up the universe in order to delve deeper into how these impact everyday life and discoveries. The majority of class will follow recent findings in astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, environmental, and forensic science in a way that incorporates in class activities and project based learning. Students can expect most work to be completed in class with approximately ½ hour to 1 hour of homework per week.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
This course is designed to engage students in a variety of scientific topics through a fully project-based learning approach. Students will explore foundational scientific discoveries and contemporary advancements that influence everyday life, focusing on subjects such as astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, environmental, and forensic science. Each unit will culminate in a student-chosen project, allowing for deeper exploration of topics of interest. Through these projects, students will connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and an understanding of how science shapes the world. The majority of work will be completed in class, with ½ hour to 1 hour of homework per week.
