COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students who take this second course in our FCS Design Pathway will gain more in depth skills and knowledge related to careers in the Fashion and Interior Design.COURSE OBJECTIVE:
This is an advanced level, full-year course where units alternate between Fashion and Interior Design:● Fashion Design & Merchandising: Have you ever wondered why we wear jeans? This course will answer this question and more. The student will research the origin of fashion and create full fashion designs for themselves. The business of fashion will also be studied, from how garments are designed, to how they end up in your local stores. Learn the latest about the STEM of fashion, and how technology is helping us create amazing new designs. The student will construct a garment using basic clothing techniques and will analyze clothing selection according to fabric, body type, and principles of design. Students will learn to operate a standard sewing machine and will be responsible for their own project supplies.● Interior Design: Interior Design is a course taught to expose students to various aspects of the interior design industry and is based on the industry’s professional standards (Foundation for Interior Design Education Research – FIDER). The first semester focuses on residential design and the second semester on commercial design. Students integrate knowledge, skills and practices to evaluate potential career opportunities. Areas of focus include: Introduction to Residential and Commercial Design; Design Drawings; Professional Practices/Education; Design Elements and Principles; and the Design Process. It will be offered every other year (2023-24, 2025-26) Students who complete this course will be eligible to take design college courses (such as Interior Design or SketchUp) at Arapahoe Community College while attending EHS (approval required).OPEN TO GRADES: 10, 11, 12
