COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This ensemble studies and performs all genres of jazz music and is consistently one of the top performing ensembles at EHS. Through jazz music the students will learn extended instrumental techniques, music theory, jazz history, and improvisation.COURSE OBJECTIVE:Students who demonstrate interest will play for the director in the spring time to gain admittance. This ensemble studies and performs all genres of jazz music and is consistently one of the top performing ensembles at EHS. Through jazz music the students will learn extended instrumental techniques, music theory, jazz history, and improvisation. The jazz ensemble consistently performs in and around Elizabeth, playing numerous concerts throughout the school year, as well as competing in festivals and jazz competitions, and performing at other gigs in and around the Denver metro area. This course requires that students enroll in the class for the full year, and enroll in Concert Band. Enrollment in concert band may be excused for guitar, bass, and piano. This class may be taken more than one time for credit.OPEN TO GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12
RECOMMENDED GRADES: 10, 11, 12
PREREQUISITES: Director Approval based on audition in Spring, must also be enrolled in Concert Band for Spring Needs: Guitar, Bass, and Piano players, saxophones, trumpets and trombones. One year of musical experience at the high school level recommended.
